Yarn Pom Poms

I've started collecting ideas for things to do with the kids this summer. Taylor has shown interest in knitting, sewing, all things her mother isn't good at :)

Here's something I stumbled upon at The Creative Mama that I might actually be able to pull off!

If Taylor is interested in knitting, I have a few recommendations for books and such.

The kit I actually used to teach myself to knit is "I taught Myself Knitting." We sell it at Michaels or you can get it on amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Taught-Myself-Knitting-Beginners-Kit/dp/B000WV867Q/ref=sr_1_34?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1274903627&sr=8-34
It comes with a good instruction booklet and basic supplies for getting started.

Then there's the book "Cool Stuff Teach me to Knit" (again either Michaels or http://www.amazon.com/Cool-Stuff-Teach-Knit-Leisure/dp/1574866389/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1274904092&sr=1-1)which is geared specifically towards preteen girls and comes with "cool" beginner projects.

Size 6 and 8 needles are the best for learning and to start off with. Most basic, beginner patterns will probably use one of these sizes. And make sure she learns using light-medium solid colored yarn. If it's too dark or is variegated (has a bunch of colors), it'll be hard to see what she's doing.

If I lived a little closer I'd offer to teach her myself! Feel free to ask me questions anytime!
